Legal Assistant

The Team You Will Be Joining
- This state agency serves Texans to guarantee every citizen’s final disposition is conducted professionally and ethically. The agency protects the public from deceptive practices in the funeral and death care industry through a process of impartial enforcement, inspection, licensing, and education, acting through two primary services: Licensing and Compliance. Their work is operative in ensuring Texans’ integrity and agency throughout their lives.
Major Duties
- Receive and manage incoming telephone calls, emails, and other communications from the public.
- Conduct intake interviews with complainants, gather detailed information, and accurately document facts to determine whether complaints may warrant further investigation.
- Prepare and maintain legal correspondence, reports, and case documentation.
- Perform high-volume data entry while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files.
- Schedule meetings, interviews, and other legal or investigative activities.
- Communicate professionally with attorneys, investigators, licensees, complainants, and members of the public by phone, email, written correspondence, and virtual meetings.
- Assist attorneys and legal staff with routine legal and administrative assignments.
- Maintain records and files in accordance with agency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What are we looking for?
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
- Legal Assistant or Paralegal Certificate preferred, or equivalent education and experience in a legal or administrative setting. (Experience in a government agency preferred.)
- Strong customer service and telephone communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written communication and data entry skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Exciting Opportunity Details
- Rate: $26.00/hr.
- Length of Engagement: Until August 31, 2026; possibility of extension/full-time placement
- Days/Hours: Monday - Friday (Standard Business Hours; 40 hours/week)
