Established in 1980, Assets, Inc. is the 64th largest private employer is the State of Alaska, with a workforce of over 270 employees, 41.97% of whom are individuals with disabilities. Each member contributes to the local economy and plays a valued role in the community.
Four years after Assets opened its doors, a contract was signed providing janitorial services at the Anchorage Airport. This was a pivotal moment in the history of the organization as it was the first of many service contracts established between Assets and various entities. Today, these contracts provide a variety of employment options for over 200 employees, both disabled and non-disabled, in such environments as the Anchorage Area Commissary, Providence Hospital, and the Alaska State Court House System. Employees of Assets wash every dish at Providence Hospital, stock every shelf at the commissary and clean every square inch of the Courthouse and Federal Buildings!
Our Supported Living Services began in 1984, followed by Employment Services in 1986. Supported Living Services refers to any combination of skill building, coaching and resource coordination to assist individuals to live in their own homes. Supported Employment assists individuals to obtain and retain employment within local businesses. Assets currently partners with over forty local employers in hiring the right person to ensure job satisfaction for both the employee and employer.
Assets has embraced change and incorporated cutting edge thinking into its service delivery system. New understandings about how individuals with disabilities are best supported have been the foundation of our services.

In accordance with Assets, Inc. core values and mission, this position contributes to the success of the contract by performing a variety of dishwashing and janitorial tasks as specified.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to and demonstrates Assets, Inc. core values and mission in the performance of all aspects of this position.
- Provides direct labor in accordance with outlined OSHA safety standards and as required by site management.
- Manually or mechanically washes and rinses dishes, glasses and silverware; maintains proper temperature for sterilization and adds cleaning solutions as needed.
- Utilizes a dish machine by filling the dish rack and breaking it down.
- Operates a dish machine processing soiled wares from carts onto racks on a conveyer belt.
- Sort dishes/silverware by size and type.
- Perform light janitorial duties. This includes, but is not limited to the following: ensuring dining area is clean, busing tables, wiping down counters, sweeping, mopping and scrubbing floors, cleaning bathrooms, doors, carpets, etc.
- Able to satisfactorily complete food handler training and other company required trainings.
- Actively participates in company/site required meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a proactive relationship with customers and coworkers.
- Be familiar with and follow all policies set forth by Assets, Inc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representatives of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: Food Service Sanitation knowledge, prior experience washing dishes and/or performing janitorial work strongly preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to interpret MSDS materials.
- Working knowledge of industry standard equipment.
- Able to deal tactfully and pleasantly with customers.
- Understanding of and willingness to work side by side with individuals who experience disabilities.
- Willing to work a varied schedule.
- Ability to respond to needs of team/site.
